The Peak District is the oldest and one of the largest of the National Park. Established in 1951 the Peak District National Park lies mainly in the county of Derbyshire and is surrounded by the conurbations of Sheffield, Derby, Manchester and Chesterfield. The Peak District is accessible to over 22 million visitors every year making it the second popular National Park in the world.

The Peak District made up of the White Peak and Dark Peak is a mecca for walkers, ramblers, hikers, climbers and mountain bikers. The White Peak, also known as the Derbyshire Dales, is formed from limestone creating a soft landscape of green pastures, white limestone walls, and beautiful villages like Youlgreave, Monyash, Tideswell and Great Longstone. The towns of Bakewell, Ashbourne, Buxton exist as major tourist centers in the White Peak area and form a good base to explore the Dales. Wapenmap reflects the unique character of the White Peak with a map showing the Monsal Trail winding through some beautiful dales in the Peak District National Park, Lathkill Dale a series of secluded White Peak dales and the Goyt Valley offering a walk for all the family.
